Featured Plus Links - Placement

The main link to your website will be placed in the main category of your choice. These categories are just one level deep, linked from the home page. A link to a Details page will be placed under the description of the Featured Link. The Details page will contain an extended description of your website, and up to five deep links or subdomains to your site. Must be to just one website.

Standard Links - Placement

Effectively one level deeper than Featured, Standard Links are placed on their own individual page, with no other outbound links. Your Own Page is linked from a main category page. Your outbound link is not from a main category page, but from Your Own Page.

The Concept

With a large number of similar template and category dump directories popping up daily, there is a need for something with a different structure. Not only are many structures too similar, but the descriptions used by submitters are often the same. Any possibility of a duplicate content filter being tripped, will render a submitters link useless.

Creating a different category structure and enforcing unique descriptions, the principle is to avoid duplicate content and any possible penalties that may normally arise.

Using HTML pages allows more flexibility to provide completely different meta information, and varying descriptions for each main category.

Link Value and Weighting

The idea behind Add Your Own Page is for submitters to gain optimum value from their link placement. By having Your Own Page, there will be no other outbound links to lower the weighting of the link. Allowing the use of self created meta information and long descriptions will help build relevance to the page.

Many directories tend to contain an accreditation link, a template sponsor link and sitewides. Add Your Own Page will never lower the weighting of pages with these types of outbound links.

Link position will never change - With Add Your Own Page, the position of your link will never change. Featured Links will always be just one level deep from the home page and will never slip onto page two. Standard Links will always be two levels deep from the home page.

No matter how many links are sold, Standard Links will always be in the same position because the outbound link is on it's own page, so the links count on main category pages is not affected. The link to your individual page is internal, so as not to lower the outbound weighting of Featured Links.

The issue of weighting and position is something that directories will have to face in the future. As the link count in a given category grows, some websites will slip onto a lower ranked and weighted page. Add Your Own Page seeks to eliminate this problem.
